ASA Filament (RFID) - 1kg

Snapmaker ASA

Advanced UV Resistance

ASA features exceptional UV resistance, minimizing yellowing and embrittlement caused by prolonged solar exposure. It retains reliable color and structural stability over time. Ideal for applications from outdoor utility parts to courtyard fixtures where ABS or PETG may degrade.

Reliable for Demanding Functional Parts

Inheriting the rugged durability of ABS, ASA outperforms standard PLA and PETG by maintaining exceptional structural stability under continuous stress or repeated use, minimizing the risk of fatigue failure or loosening over time.

High Heat Resistance

With a Heat Deflection Temperature of 103°C, this filament maintains its strength where PLA and PETG soften or deform. It delivers the dependable heat resistance required for structural parts exposed to outdoor environments.

Dependable Impact Resistance

ASA features exceptional impact strength, minimizing the risk of snapping or cracking under sudden stress or accidental drops.

Versatile Colors for Everyday Use

A curated selection of essential tones, providing the exact foundational colors needed for your functional and structural models.

RFID Recognition[1]

When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically loads preset filament information so you don’t need to adjust settings manually, making printing easier than ever.

Recyclable Spool & Packaging

Both the spool and packing box are crafted from 100% recyclable materials, balancing eco-friendly values with superior print reliability.

Printing Tips

Drying & Storage

• Pre-Drying: ASA filament has low moisture sensitivity and generally does not require drying. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 70°C for 7 hours.
• Storage: When not in use, we recommend keeping the filament away from direct sunlight in a sealed container with desiccant.

Printing

• Enclosed Printing Required: This filament is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and may warp during printing. It can also produce a noticeable odor when melted, so enclosed printing is required throughout the process. For U1 printers, we recommend using the official top cover to help stabilize chamber temperature and support air filtration, addressing both issues in one setup. For better air quality, operate the printer in a well-ventilated area during printing.
• Resolving Poor Layer Adhesion: If layer bonding is insufficient, try increasing the nozzle temperature, reducing print speed, and turning off the cooling fan.
• Resolving First-Layer Warping: If first-layer warping occurs, apply glue to the build plate to improve print success. Avoid printing large models. Adding a brim can also help reduce the risk of warping.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Compatibility

Snapmaker U1: Optimized print profiles are built into Snapmaker Orca.
Other printers:  Compatible with most FDM 3D printers. Manual parameter tuning may be required.

2. What is ASA?

ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is an engineering-grade filament designed for long-term outdoor applications. It combines excellent UV resistance, weather resistance, impact resistance, and heat resistance, making it ideal for functional parts exposed to sunlight and outdoor environments.

3. What print settings are recommended?

For the best printing results, we recommend the following settings:
Nozzle Temperature: 240-280°C
Bed Temperature: 75-100°C
Print Speed: 50-200 mm/s
Cooling Fan: Off
Drying (if needed): 70°C for 7 hours

The recommended settings are based on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Printing conditions may vary with different nozzle diameters.

4. Do I need to dry ASA filament before printing?

ASA filament has low moisture sensitivity and generally does not require drying. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 70°C for 7 hours.
When not in use, store the filament in a sealed container with desiccant and keep it away from direct sunlight.

5. Is a Top Cover required for ASA?

Yes. We strongly recommend using the official Top Cover when printing ASA with the Snapmaker U1.
ASA is sensitive to ambient temperature fluctuations and can warp, crack, or develop poor interlayer adhesion if printed in an open environment. It also produces a noticeable odor during printing, so proper ventilation is recommended.
The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover helps maintain a stable chamber temperature, significantly reducing the risk of warping and improving print quality. It features a three-stage air filtration system for a more comfortable printing experience.
For the best results with ASA, the Top Cover should be installed before printing.

6. Is a Hardened Steel Hot End required for ASA?

ASA is a non-abrasive filament and can be printed reliably with the standard Stainless Steel Hot End on the Snapmaker U1. The standard hot end fully supports the recommended printing temperatures of 240–280°C.
A Hardened Steel Hot End is generally recommended only for abrasive filaments containing materials such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, or glow-in-the-dark additives.

7. Why is my ASA print warping?

ASA has a relatively high shrinkage rate. During printing, if different parts of the model cool at different rates, uneven shrinkage creates thermal stress. When this stress exceeds the adhesion between the print and the build plate or the material's resistance to deformation, the corners may lift or the base may warp.
To reduce the risk of warping:
• Use the Top Cover to maintain a more stable chamber temperature and minimize temperature fluctuations during printing.
• Apply glue to the build plate to improve first-layer adhesion.
• Add a brim to increase the contact area with the build plate.
• Avoid printing very large ASA models when possible, as they are more susceptible to thermal stress.
• Keep the enclosure closed throughout the entire print.

Note: A closed chamber does not completely eliminate warping. Its primary purpose is to reduce temperature fluctuations during printing, which helps minimize thermal stress and significantly reduce the risk of warping.

8. Why is the layer adhesion poor?

If layer bonding is insufficient:
• Increase the nozzle temperature.
• Reduce the printing speed.
• Turn off the cooling fan.
These adjustments improve interlayer adhesion and overall part strength.

9. What applications is ASA best suited for?

ASA is ideal for outdoor and weather-resistant functional parts, including:
• Outdoor functional parts
• Courtyard fixtures
• Outdoor enclosures
• Signs
• Automotive exterior components
• Weather-resistant structural parts

10. Does ASA have good heat resistance?

Yes. ASA has a Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) of 103°C, offering better heat resistance than PLA and PETG. It provides reliable heat resistance for structural parts exposed to outdoor environments.

11. Why should I choose ASA for outdoor applications?

ASA is specifically designed for long-term outdoor use. Compared with ABS, it offers superior UV and weather resistance, helping reduce yellowing and embrittlement caused by prolonged sun exposure while maintaining reliable color and structural stability over time.
