Wood PLA Filament (RFID) - 1kg

Snapmaker Wood PLA

Three labels:

Realistic Wood-Like Appearance

Formulated with real wood fibers, Snapmaker Wood PLA delivers a wood-like look—bringing genuine woodworking aesthetics to your final creations.

Refined Matte Aesthetics

Wood PLA features a premium matte finish that reduces synthetic shine and softens visible layer lines—yielding a textured surface with a more natural wood feel.

Post-Processing Ready

Packed with genuine wood powder, Snapmaker Wood PLA prints behave just like real wood. Easily sand, paint, or stain your creations with the same creative freedom you'd have with traditional woodwork.

Classic Wood Tones

Available in a curated range of classic tones like Oak, Maple, and Walnut, Snapmaker brings genuine timber hues to your prints.

RFID Recognition[1]

When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically loads preset filament information so you don’t need to adjust settings manually, making printing easier than ever.

Sustainability, Without Compromise

Both filament and spool are crafted from 100% recyclable materials, balancing eco-friendly values with superior print reliability.

Printing Tips

Drying & Storage

• Drying: Due to the added wood powder, Wood PLA is sensitive to moisture. For best results, we highly recommend drying the filament before printing. Recommended settings: 55°C for 8 hours.
• Storage: Wood PLA is prone to photodegradation and oxidation under UV light, which can cause yellowing. When not in use, store the filament in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Printing

• Hotend Selection: Do not use hotends with a diameter of 0.2 mm or smaller.
• Resolving Clogs: If frequent clogging occurs, try lowering the nozzle temperature slightly to reduce the risk of wood powder charring inside the nozzle.
• Resolving Discoloration / Whitening: Noticeable color inconsistency or localized whitening on the printed model indicates that the filament has absorbed significant moisture. It needs to be dried before further use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Compability

• Snapmaker U1: Optimized profiles built into Snapmaker Orca.
• Other printers: Supports most FDM 3D printers; manual tuning may be required.

2. What is Wood PLA?

Wood PLA is a composite filament made by blending PLA with natural wood fibers. It delivers a realistic wood-like appearance, a premium matte finish, and a natural texture, making it ideal for home décor, artistic creations, display models, and other woodworking-inspired projects.

3. How is Wood PLA different from regular PLA?

Compared with standard PLA, Wood PLA offers:
A realistic wood-like appearance and natural texture
A premium matte finish that helps reduce visible layer lines
Excellent post-processing capabilities, including sanding, painting, and staining

4. What is Wood PLA best suited for?

Wood PLA is ideal for printing:
Home décor
Picture frames
Decorative ornaments
Architectural models
Arts and crafts
Cosplay props
Storage trays
Chess sets and other display pieces

5. What applications are not recommended for Wood PLA?

Wood PLA is designed for aesthetic appeal rather than mechanical performance. It is not recommended for:
Load-bearing parts
Functional mechanical components
Snap-fit or flexible designs
High-precision mechanical assemblies
Long-term outdoor use or prolonged UV exposure
High-temperature environments (it begins to soften at around 60°C)

6. What print settings are recommended?

The following settings are recommended when using a 0.4 mm nozzle:
Nozzle Temperature: 195–260°C
Bed Temperature: 50–65°C
Print Speed: 50–250 mm/s
Cooling Fan: On
Actual settings may vary depending on your printer, model geometry, and printing environment.

7. Is a Top Cover required for Wood PLA?

No. A Top Cover is not required when printing with Wood PLA.

8. Is a Hardened Steel Hot End required for Wood PLA?

No. A Hardened Steel Hot End is not required for printing with Wood PLA.
However, a 0.2 mm nozzle is not recommended. Because Wood PLA contains natural wood fibers, using a 0.2 mm nozzle or smaller significantly increases the risk of clogging.
For the best printing performance, we recommend using:
0.4 mm (recommended)
0.6 mm
0.8 mm

9. Is Wood PLA more prone to nozzle clogging?

Compared with standard PLA, Wood PLA is more prone to nozzle clogging due to its natural wood fibers.
If clogging occurs frequently:
Dry the filament before printing.
Lower the nozzle temperature slightly.
Use a 0.4 mm or larger nozzle.

10. Does Wood PLA support high-speed printing?

Yes. Its optimized formulation improves extrusion stability while reducing common issues such as clogging and excessive stringing. Under optimized printing conditions, Wood PLA supports print speeds of up to 250 mm/s.

11. Does Wood PLA support RFID recognition?

Yes. When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically recognizes the filament and loads the recommended print settings.
Note: RFID recognition is currently supported only on the Snapmaker U1.

12. Should I dry Wood PLA before printing?

Yes. Because Wood PLA contains natural wood fibers, it is more sensitive to moisture than standard PLA.
Recommended drying settings: 55°C for 8 hours.

13. How can I tell if my filament has absorbed moisture?

Common signs of moisture absorption include:
Localized whitening on printed parts
Uneven coloration
Increased stringing
Popping or crackling sounds during extrusion
Rough or inconsistent surface finish
If you notice any of these symptoms, dry the filament before printing again.

14. How should I store Wood PLA?

For optimal print quality and long-term performance:
Store the filament in a sealed bag or airtight container.
Keep the desiccant with the filament.
Store it in a cool, dry place.
Avoid direct sunlight and prolonged UV exposure.
Extended exposure to UV light may cause the filament to yellow over time.

15. Is Wood PLA heat-resistant?

Wood PLA offers heat resistance similar to that of standard PLA. It may begin to soften at around 55°C, so it is not recommended for high-temperature environments or prolonged outdoor use.
